Take an HRV reading without wearing a watch

With Wellhero, your iPhone camera and flash are enough for a spot measurement. Open the measurement screen, follow the finger-position guide and keep your hand still. You can watch the signal and progress while the app records.

That gives you a practical starting point if you want to check HRV before buying a wearable, or take a reading while your watch is charging. Apple Watch is still needed for the watch-based overnight workflows described on this page.

Athlytic's documented approach is to read health data collected by Apple Watch or another compatible source in Apple Health. Its device guide recommends Apple Watch for the intended experience.

Compare what the stress number actually measures

In a supported Wellhero measurement report, the stress estimate comes from heartbeat intervals using the Baevsky Stress Index. You can inspect the interval histogram, measurement quality and available HRV metrics alongside the result.

Athlytic documents a different approach: its Stress score uses heart rate during inactive periods relative to resting heart rate. A stress percentage in one app therefore should not be treated as the same measurement in the other. Athlytic's explanation.

If you want to take a reading and examine that recording in detail, Wellhero's measurement report is a reason to try the app. Some detailed analysis requires Pro. Our stress monitoring page shows the report and explains its limits.

Use recovery tracking without Pro

Wellhero's Recovery screen shows the score and the HRV and resting heart rate charts without requiring a Pro subscription. Other features and access to older history may depend on your plan.

Both apps compare readings with a personal baseline, but the reference windows differ: Wellhero uses 42 days; Athlytic documents 60. HRV selection and calculation settings can also affect the result. Athlytic's recovery baseline.

Wellhero currently uses SDNN for Recovery HRV. Athlytic offers SDNN and RMSSD settings. Keep that distinction in mind when comparing scores or charts. Athlytic's recovery preferences.

The Wellhero recovery guide explains how a morning reading, overnight data and available history contribute to your assessment.

Which app fits your routine?

Try Wellhero if built-in camera HRV measurements or access to Recovery without Pro matter to you. It also suits a routine where you take an individual measurement, check its quality and return to the report later.

Athlytic is worth considering if its Target Exertion Zone, training-load views and Journal are features you want to use each day. Its getting-started guide explains those workflows.

You can compare the screens and routines you find useful without expecting identical numbers. Each app applies its own calculations to the data available to it.

Questions when switching from Athlytic

Can I use a morning Mindfulness measurement in both apps?

Yes. Wellhero can analyze a supported Breathe session after it syncs, and you can mark a suitable reading as your morning measurement. Athlytic's preferences can prioritize a Mindfulness reading taken before noon, followed by sleep HRV and then other readings. Check the Wellhero workflow and Athlytic's settings.

Will my Athlytic scores transfer to Wellhero?

Set up Wellhero and grant the Apple Health permissions needed for the features you choose. Wellhero calculates its own estimates from available measurements and history. This is not a transfer of Athlytic's Recovery or Exertion scores, and the results may differ.

Is Wellhero more accurate than Athlytic?

We have not established that in a head-to-head validation study. Different formulas and baseline windows explain why scores can differ; they do not prove that one app is more accurate. Both are wellness tools, and their estimates should be read alongside how you feel.
