Oura Ring alternative: get more from your Apple Watch
Your Apple Watch can cover most of the core health metrics below, while also handling calls, payments and apps. With Wellhero, you can turn the available readings into sleep and recovery reports without adding a ring.
If you already wear your watch every day, start with the data it records: heart rate, HRV, sleep and breathing rate. Compatible models also provide wrist temperature and blood oxygen. Wellhero helps you review those readings alongside your own history.

One watch for health tracking and the rest of your day
Apple Watch has a much broader range of everyday uses than a dedicated health ring. The same device you wear to bed can help you on your commute, at a checkout or during a workout:
- Answer calls and reply to messages from your wrist.
- Pay with Apple Pay using a supported card.
- Follow directions in Maps, including turn alerts.
- Listen to music, install watch apps and view workout metrics while you exercise.
These are Apple Watch features. See Apple's feature overview and Maps guide for details. Availability depends on your model, region and connection; some services require a subscription.
Wellhero gives the health data another use: a place to review recovery, sleep and daily strain. If you already rely on the watch for those everyday tasks, you can keep that routine and explore its health reports before buying another device.
Oura Ring vs Apple Watch with Wellhero: the health metrics
The overlap includes most of the core measurements listed here. Apple's heart monitoring, sleep tracking and Vitals documentation explains what supported watches record. Wellhero uses the readings available in Apple Health, with your permission.

| What you want to see | Apple Watch + Wellhero | Oura Ring |
|---|---|---|
| Sleep duration and stages | Apple Watch records sleep. Wellhero reports on available duration, stages and sleep history. | Estimates sleep stages and time spent asleep. Sleep stages. |
| Heart rate and HRV | Use recorded heart rate, resting heart rate and supported HRV readings in Wellhero. | Tracks resting heart rate and HRV, among other heart metrics. Tracked metrics. |
| Breathing rate | Review available overnight respiratory rate in Wellhero's sleep report. | Reports average respiratory rate during sleep. Respiratory rate. |
| Temperature trends | Use overnight wrist temperature from a supported watch model. | Tracks temperature trends using sensors on your finger. Temperature tracking. |
| Blood oxygen | Review available SpO2 readings. Support depends on your watch model and region. | Measures blood oxygen during sleep on supported rings. Blood oxygen sensing. |
| Daily recovery assessment | Wellhero calculates its own Recovery score from available measurements and history. | Provides its own Readiness score and guidance. How Oura works. |
Detailed sleep and overnight reports in Wellhero require Pro. The Recovery score and its HRV and resting heart rate charts are available without Pro.
Tracking the same type of metric does not mean the devices produce identical readings. Sensors, recording times and calculations differ. Wellhero's Recovery score and Oura's Readiness score are separate assessments.
See what your Apple Watch data says in Wellhero
Open Recovery to see your score alongside the HRV and resting heart rate used in the assessment. The charts give you a way to follow changes against your own history.
In the sleep report, review duration and stages, then inspect the overnight readings your watch supplied. This can include heart rate, HRV, breathing rate, blood oxygen and wrist temperature. A missing measurement stays unavailable; installing an app cannot add a sensor to your watch.
You can also take an individual HRV reading with a supported Mindfulness Breathe session or with your iPhone camera. A spot measurement is useful when you want a report from a specific moment; it does not replace a night of sleep data.
Read the Wellhero Recovery guide or learn how to measure HRV with your iPhone camera.
When a ring may fit your routine better
Oura's appeal includes its form: a small device on your finger with no screen or buzzing notifications. If you dislike sleeping with a watch, that may be a reason to choose a ring. Oura describes this approach in its product overview.
If you are comfortable wearing Apple Watch overnight and use it during the day, try Wellhero with the hardware you already own. You can check whether its reports answer your questions before deciding to add another wearable.
Questions about an Oura Ring alternative
Can I get these health metrics without buying a ring?
Yes, with a compatible Apple Watch and the relevant tracking enabled. The table shows the core overlap. Wellhero reads the Apple Health data you allow it to access; the metrics available depend on what your watch actually records.
Does every Apple Watch support temperature and blood oxygen?
No. These features have model and regional restrictions. Check Apple's current Vitals requirements before choosing a watch for a particular measurement.
Will Oura Readiness and Wellhero Recovery match?
You should expect differences. Each app calculates its own score from its available data and history. A shared metric name or similar score does not establish that one device is more accurate.
How do I start with the Apple Watch I already own?
Install Wellhero on your iPhone, grant the relevant Apple Health permissions and wear your watch to sleep with sleep tracking enabled. Leave enough charge for the night. After your watch syncs, review the available reports; personal ranges need enough suitable history. The Apple Watch HRV guide explains the measurement options.
Do I need Wellhero Pro?
You can use Recovery and its HRV and resting heart rate charts without Pro. Detailed sleep and overnight reports, some additional analysis and access to older history require Pro.
